Saving Pete

Pete is my pecan tree that my daughter planted about 5 years ago.  He had a few pecans last year.  This year he was loaded down with so many pecans that all his spindly branches sagged toward the ground.  Well, in stepped Edward, our resident squirrel, to save the day.  Now all Pete's branches proudly reach toward the sky and Pete again stands tall and proud.  Edward removed all those tumors, ie pecans at the ends of Pete's branches.  And I get no pecans.  I will have them come up all over my yard though.

I planted strawberries in pots on the patio this spring.  I was blaming the birds and the squirrel for getting my strawberries.  Then I caught Honey and Jock with their noses in the pots of strawberries having a snack.  They love picking fruits and veggies.  So I plant them for them .

family

I usually post about my 4 legged family, but today I have to brag on my son. He called me this morning needing a jump on his truck.  He drives an old Ford F250 Diesel and he thought he had a defective battery.  He did, but that was not the problem.  I watched him try to jump start it.  When that didn't work, he pulled the battery and I took him to get a replacement.  We came back, he installed the battery.  Didn't fix the problem.  So then he removed the starter, we went and got a new starter.  Came back and installed it.  Truck started.  And all this time he stayed cool, no anger.  Just calm and cool.  I complimented him on this and he said well it does not good to get angry. It doesn't fix anything.  I was so impressed in my son because if that had been me, I would have thrown my tool across the park, jumped up and down and used every curse word I knew and then I would have made up new ones.  My children are so much better people than I am and I am constantly n awe of them.  I do not know how I raised such good people.  They tell me it is because I was always there for them and always encouraging them.  And I did not realize it, but apparently I taught them to be non judgmental.  I have always hated gossip so I never listen to it nor repeat it. Also, I hate racism.  Apparently I passed these qualities on to them.  I always told them that no matter how smart they were, that only counted if they used it.  I also taught them that they are better than no one and no one is better than them.  I ordered no bullying. As with my Mom, that would have been a switch offense.  Making fun of someone who might not have what you have is also a no-no.  So, yeah, I guess I did do some things right.  But they still amaze me in what good people they are.  I love them dearly.

My buddies

No more Duncan on the big bed until I go to bed.  He jumped off today.  It scared the beJesus out of me.  So now he is on a huge dog fed on the floor sharing with Jock.  Honey took the little bed and has to curl up to use it.  I don't know why she is there.  She has a futon she sleeps on.  Guess she felt left out.  She went nuts this afternoon.  The squirrel was running down the fence.  Honey just knew she could catch him.  Nope.   He got away.  I am about ready to shoot him.  He is already stealing my pecans and they are not even ripe yet.  He will get them all as usual.

I have a bunch of turk's caps in the yard and my hummingbirds are loving them.  They are small, red flowers with a stamen that stands up on top and they are a favorite of the hummers and I have 3 feeders up so I have lots of hummers right now. I love them.
